Business leaders in St Albans were given valuable, business boosting advice from a leading sports psychologist, last night (Wednesday 27 November 2019).
Former Team GB and England Cricket Team psychologist Dr. Steve Bull, stressed the importance of positive mind-set in creating business resilience, at a business leaders event hosted by the St Albans branch of Reed Specialist Recruitment, at Old Albanian RFC.
During the three hour session, Dr. Steve Bull, who helped the England Cricket Team build the mental toughness to win the Ashes for the first time in almost 20 years, advised attendees of a range of techniques for thriving under pressure in the ‘always on’ boardroom environment. This included developing the mental toughness to deal with today’s major boardroom challenges.
Dr. Steve Bull said: “Today’s boardrooms have many similar challenges and pressures to those faced by elite professional sportspeople in the biggest of competitions. They hold the weight of a company and its employees on their shoulders and have to make the right decisions that benefit the business.
“Business executives have never had to cope with such lengthy hours and high pressures. When talking to executives at the REED session, issues such as global pressures, the need for greater emotional intelligence, and technology’s round the clock presence affect a high number of businesses locally. The techniques I shared to increase resilience can help the executives in St. Albans, just as much as they helped the Ashes-winning England team.”
The over 100 executives in the room were given advice on how to develop a high performance environment in their workplace by focusing on a variety of skills relating to mindset, motivation and self-belief.
Barry Davis, regional manager of Reed St Albans office, said: “In our work with customers across our specialist sectors including accountancy and finance, technology, engineering, business support and HR, we have found a number of challenges they all face. They are all working increasingly longer hours, searching for new staff that can take the slack, or feeling under pressure to absorb and utilise new technologies as fast as they enter the market..
“We arranged this event as a way to help our clients address those issues. We know that they want to overcome them and find new ways to cope, but they simply don’t have the time to react. Dr. Steve Bull was brought into give the best advice – after all, there aren’t many occasions that are more pressure intensive than the Ashes or the Olympics.”
